Vignalta Marrano Rosso Veneto 2013

It's hard to pull my nose from the glass, as the 2013 Marrano seduces with masses of brown spice, sage and plum sauce, all neatly contrasted by hints of mint, camphor and smoke. It's deeply textural, almost velvety in feel, with potent red and blue fruits that drench the palate, leaving a staining of clove and balsam herbs. While the 2013 comes across as large-scaled at times, balance is expertly maintained, as it finishes with a gentle grip of tannins and hints of tobacco. This is a total pleasure to taste today, yet it also possesses medium-term cellaring potential. The Marrano is a barrel selection of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon that refines for six to seven years in used French tonneaux. - Vinous
