French Malbec, called Cot in the Loire Valley, specifically in the sub-region of Touraine, is more rustic than the young, fruity, or heavy-weight Malbecs from the New World, and produces earthy dark wines with good acidity. This Malbec is lean, tart, and derives its minerality and complexity from the clay loam and limestone rich soils in the vineyard. It has an intense black-purple color with edges of bright magenta. On the palate, it opens with ample acidity, and offers flavors of freshly ground black pepper, spice, hints of leather, black plums, black cherries, and brambles a savory, earthy wine that finishes with moderate, soft tannins.
