Unoaked bottling that spent four months on the lees and comes in at 13% alcohol. Another beautifully focused Sauvignon from Alpha Estate, this shows considerable greenness, a bit more broccoli and asparagus notes early on than mere grassiness, but it also has fine mid-palate concentration, tension on the finish and the ability to integrate its components beautifully. Tightly wound on opening, it was not as immediately expressive as some vintages. The next day, it began singing prettier songs. By Day 3, the more vegetal notes have moderated, leaving mostly grassy nuances. It is far better. If this is your style of wine, it's a steal. This is bright and energetic, although well controlled, if you're looking for fat, sweet and ripe, that's a different wine. Alpha has become a great source for Sauvignon Blanc. I am betting that this will hold a bit better than most, but it will likely show best in its first couple of years. Note also that it could use a little time to settle down, late summer will be a lot better than now. It may yet wind up being Alpha's best ever Sauvignon, but I like to be a little conservative. When it opens up, it is going to be a wine you can drink every day and never find boring.
